on your test day

You need to arrive at the test centre in good time so that you can find a parking space to prepare yourself for the big day. Do not turn up late for your driving test, because not only will you not be able to sit your driving test, you will also lose your test fees.

Documents you need to bring to site the test

1 Both parts of your driving license (photo and counter part)
2 Also your theory test  pass certificate

After parking up your car and making sure you have everything you need, enter the waiting area of the test centre and relax, because the worst thing you could do is get yourself more tense before you start your driving test, when your test time arrives an examiner will enter the waiting area and call your name out. After introducing him or her self, you will be asked to show your documents you had brought with you. After the examiner has checked your documents to make sure they are in good order, he or she will ask you to sign a declaration saying that the car you will be using for your driving test has got car insurance and that it is in good order to use for the test.you will then be asked to go outside to do an eyesight test.

Eye sight requirements

You must be able to see:
For the old-style number plate = 20.5 meters
For the new-style number plate= 20 meters

After your eye sight test, the examiner will then ask you to take him or her to your car.

Show me – tell me

At the start of your driving test, you will be asked two questions, one “show me” and one “tell me”. If you get one or both questions incorrectly , it will result in one driving fault (i.e. minor fault) being recorded. If you did get a question wrong, (don’t panic) you can still pass your driving test with 15 minor points recorded (16  minor points will results to a fail.)

During the test

During the driving test which will last about 40 minutes long you will be given directions from the examiner which you must follow. If you take a wrong turn (don’t panic) because the examiner understands that you are nervous  and he or she will direct you back on track. If at anytime you are unclear what the examiner requires, don’t hesitate to check what he or she wants. The examiner will be happy to repeat any instructions or clarify any instructions given. During the test, the examiner will try to ensure that you cover a wide variety of road conditions. While you are driving the examiner will note any driving faults on the driving test report form. You will also be required to undertake several set manoeuvres. Also during your driving test, you may be asked to undertake two of the following manoeuvres and optionally the emergency stop :

  • Turn in the road
  • Reversing round a corner
  • Reverse parking behind a parked car or into a parking bay.

When the driving test is over, the examiner will look at his or her driving test report form to see if you had any driving faults noted against you. Remember 15 minor points is a pass (16 minor points will result in a fail). However, if you commit one or more serious or dangerous driving faults, you will unfortunately fail the driving test. After added up the driving faults (if any have been made) the examiner will tell you whether you have passed or failed.
